Adopt a Change in York – Training designed and delivered by young adopted people applying lived experience to help shape and influence social work practice

Description:

This NEW training for professionals is designed and delivered in-person by young adopted people. This training is experiential, immersive and creative - it will ask you to look at adoption from a young person’s perspective.

Adopt a Change aims to challenge your inner bias and reflect on the experiences of young adopted people, whilst also giving you tools and tips on how to build supportive relationships with the young people you may work with.

We are charging £20 plus VAT per delegate to cover cost of delivery - refreshments and lunch will be provided.

This Adopt a Change training is the first of its kind within our sector and a must for anyone working in adoption or in the care planning of children who are to be placed for adoption. The training is impactful in ensuring social work practice and decision making is embedded with the voices and experiences of adopted children and young people.

Who should attend

Anyone who works with young adopted people or is involved in the care planning of young people. Adoption support social workers, family finders, assessment and recruitment, letterbox workers, therapists, counsellors, education workers, youth workers.

Learning outcomes:

- Greater knowledge of the issues that are important to young adopted people
- Improved insight into how it feels to be an adopted young person
- Improved ways of working with young adopted people
- Increased awareness of life impact that the school system has on young adopted people
- Enriched understanding on the complexity & importance of identity for young adopted people
- Enshrining practice in systemic ways of working with children and young people
- Evidencing the voice of service users within social worker practice

Facilitators

5 young people aged between 13-17 who are adopted and are care experienced will be delivering this training with support from PAC-UK staff.

The completion of this booking form for a training place is an agreement with PAC-UK and the following cancellation terms apply: Cancellation more than 6 weeks prior to date of training – 25% charge of course fee; Cancellation between 6 weeks and 4 weeks prior to date of training – 50% charge of course fee; Cancellation within 4 weeks of date of training – 100% charge of course fee; Moved to another date – 20% of course fee (admin fee). PAC-UK reserve the right to cancel the training and a full refund of the course fee will be given.
