Introduction to non-violent resistance (NVR) parenting - via Zoom

Description:

Child-to-Parent Violence is now recognised as a real risk factor in foster families, adoptive families and other permanent placements. NVR is a parenting approached based on the political position of great figures who took it upon themselves to bring about much needed change, without getting caught up in the conflict, nor allowing themselves to be dis-empowered.

 

Please note: this is a half day course taking place on 28 January 2021 from 10.00am to 1.00pm

Many children and young people coming from a background of complex trauma present with challenging, destructive and violent behaviours. This training will help you gain an understanding of the how the NVR approach can help these children and their parents, in order to support the families you are working with, and/or to make better informed recommendations re therapeutic interventions for the families you are supporting.

Sue Dromey NVR-UK Practitioner has worked in the field of fostering and adoption for over 35 years as an Integrative Child Psychotherapist, drama-therapist, trainer, GAL and social worker. She has been the Practice Manager for PAC-UK’s Child and Family Service for 19 years. Sue has a special interest in therapeutic work that  addresses trauma in both children and their parents, and integrating this with the principles of NVR. She is part of the team who developed the PAC-UK Child to Parent Violence Project under a DfE grant. Sue works with trauma using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy) EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) as well as creative therapies.

Jeanine Heisman is a registered Art Psychotherapist, NVR-UK accredited group practitioner and has run groups for parents/carers and trained professionals in a number of settings for 6 years. Jeanine has supported parents and guardians looking after children and young adults with complex needs, who have experienced criminal and sexual exploitation in the community and have become involved with gangs. Jeanine has worked with looked after children in residential care, foster care and school settings. Jeanine is passionate about using NVR to create a network of concerned adults for safeguarding children and young people and promoting positive relationships at all stages of life.
