Enabling effective contact for special guardian and kinship carers - London

Description:

This training is aimed at all professionals responsible for managing contact for children living away from their birth parents on special guardianship orders.

Attendees will learn about the key ingredients of positive contact, the emotional experience of the adults and children involved and ways that contact can positively influence outcomes for young people and enhance their development.

About 200,000 to 300,000 children a year in the UK live away from their birth parents for a wide variety of reasons. Research evidence suggests that when birth parent contact goes well, long term outcomes improve for all parties. This day will focus on the raw realities of the human experience of contact for all those affected by kinship care and special guardianship orders. We will explore the pragmatics of contact, the emotion of contact and consider multiple perspective on these.

By examining the complex human dynamics at play as well as seeking simple and deliverable solutions to aspects of these we will journey through what is important but complex territory.
