Sibling placement: Assessment and decision making - London

Description:

The Care Planning task for children in sibling groups can be a complex and emotive task. Joan Hunt, experienced social worker and trainer, provides this workshop for professionals to enable them to assess siblings and make decisions about their future. Joan will provides up-to-date research about the needs of siblings and a framework that can be used to assess sibling relationships and provide delegates with a tool kit to make informed assessments and decisions.

Sibling relationships are the most enduring relationships we have. Research points to positive sibling relationships being beneficial to a persons overall wellbeing. However, for children who have suffered abuse and trauma, their sibling relationships can be adversely impacted by these experiences. Continuing to live together may therefore lead to re-traumatisation, competition and intense rivalry. Consequently, Care Planning for children in sibling groups is a complex task, and an emotive one too.

This workshop will provide delegates with the tools and background knowledge to assess and make decisions about sibling assessments, whereby the focus is on identifying the strengths, vulnerabilities and needs of each individual child as well as the sibling group they belong to. Sibling group support needs and contact issues will also be thought about.

Who should attend
