Description:

Parenting teenagers can be difficult and challenging for everyone.  So, Buckle Up and Hang On – help is at hand.  Joan Hunt, experienced trainer, social worker, parent and foster carer will help parents and carers understand teenagers and the teenage brain.  She will explain adolescent development and the impact of abuse and trauma on a young person’s behaviour.  Joan will give parents and carers skills and tools to help them navigate these teenage years and help make the successful transition to adulthood.

Teenage years are a time of great change, adopters and/or foster carers are a vital link  to providing teens with a secure base that is crucial for them to make a successful transition to adulthood. Yet there are considerable challenges for adopters and /or foster carers and their families. This training looks to bring understanding of the implications of a young person’s personal history , brain development  and the impact of abuse and trauma on their presenting behaviour. It looks to give the carers the skills and tools needed to be able to navigate this very crucial period of development of a young person.

Joan Hunt is an independent Social Work Trainer Consultant who works with child care and partner agencies to provide a professional training and consultancy that reflects up to date theory, practice and legislation. She has delivered training to international audiences and education, health and legal professionals.

Joan draws heavily from her professional and personal experiences as a  former BAAF Trainer Consultant, Social Worker, Adoption Social Worker, Panel Chair, Disruption Chair, parent and foster carer and applies this to her training with a strong focus on the child’s lived experience
