Introduction to Theraplay® - London

Description:

Introduction to TheraplayTheraplay® is a short-term, playful, engaging treatment that focuses on parent-child relationships and can help adoptive/foster children form secure attachments. This one-day workshop introduces the key elements of Theraplay. The focus will be on practical strategies that can be taken away and used by parents in the home, and by professionals in their practice. A qualified Theraplay trainer will be on hand to work with you. This day is designed for anyone who would like to know more about Theraplay, including those who make referrals and professionals considering adding Theraplay to their practice. This may include adoptive parents and foster carers, psychologists and psychiatrists, social workers, counsellors, family therapists, play therapists, teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, adoption/post-adoption counsellors and medical professionals.

Trainer

Joan Wilson, M. Ed is a certified Theraplay Therapist and Trainer and a registered Play Therapy Supervisor with over three decades of experience working with children, adolescents, and their families. As well, she is a site reviewer for the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. She has a B.A. in Psychology with Distinction from York University, and an M.Ed in Counseling Psychology from the University of Toronto. Joan has trained in dyadic developmental psychotherapy with Daniel Hughes. In her private practice and as a team leader with a children's mental health agency, Joan focuses her efforts on attachment and trauma work using Theraplay and DDP. Play therapy, expressive arts, narrative, collaborative problem solving and brief solution-focused modalities add to the range of services she offers to children and families.
