Parenting a child affected by domestic abuse and violence - Leeds

Description:

Crying illtle asian girl with her fighting parents in the backgroundMany adopted and fostered children will have witnessed domestic abuse and violence in their early years.  This can have a  profound effect on children.  Gemma Ridge, a Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist will explain the different types of abuse and the harm and impact this can have on children.  Gemma will explore strategies and techniques to support parenting these children and understanding their experiences.

Many adopted and fostered children will have witnessed domestic abuse in their early years.  This training will explore the physical, psychological and emotional harm that can be caused to these children.

There are different types of domestic abuse, including emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, and financial abuse. Many abusers behave in ways that include more than one type of domestic violence, and the boundaries between some of these behaviours are often quite blurred.  The impact that this abuse can have on children can be profound.

Gemma will explore strategies that parents and other permanent carers will find useful when parenting and caring for children who have been directly and indirectly exposed to domestic abuse.
